How to convert HEIC to JPG or PNG

JPG is usually best for ordinary photos and smaller files. PNG avoids additional lossy compression but is often much larger.
Convert and save
The local decoder turns the HEIC pixels into a new image. Preview it, check the file size and dimensions, then download it.
What local processing means
The page imports its copy of heic-to after you choose a photo so it can create the preview. Decoding happens with libheif inside your browser. No photo is uploaded to a conversion server.
Memory and performance
A compressed HEIC can expand to many times its file size while decoded. High-resolution photos may briefly require hundreds of megabytes of memory, especially when creating PNG output.
Metadata and Live Photos
The result is a newly encoded still image. Camera metadata, location data, depth information, edits, and the motion portion of a Live Photo are not preserved.

Is my HEIC photo uploaded?
No. Your browser reads and converts the file on your device.
Why does preview or conversion take time?
The browser must decode every pixel before it can show a preview or encode a new image. The first preview also initializes the local decoder. Large photos and PNG output need more time and memory.
Which output format should I choose?
Choose JPG for most photos and smaller downloads. Choose PNG for lossless output when file size is less important.
Does JPG quality change the original HEIC?
No. The original file is never modified. The quality slider affects only the newly created JPG.
Will EXIF and location metadata be kept?
No. The result is created from decoded pixels and does not preserve the original metadata. This also removes embedded location details from the downloaded copy.
Can it convert a Live Photo?
It converts the primary still image in the HEIC file. It does not create or preserve the separate motion clip.
Which library and license are used?
The page uses heic-to 1.5.2, powered by libheif 1.22.2. heic-to is provided under the GNU Lesser General Public License version 3. A license copy and source link are included with the local library files.
